Happy Chinese New Year everyone!!! 过年好！
It’s the year of the horse! That means a year of quick victories, unexpected adventures and surprising romances in the Chinese calendar, which starts with the Chinese New Year this year on Jan. 31. (It’s officially started based on Beijing Time)
It is the most important holiday in Chinese culture, equivalent to Thanksgiving/Christmas in western culture. The celebrations traditionally run a full two weeks, ending Feb. 14, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy and celebrate!! Yeah~!
Other than having yummy Chinese food, you may wanna check out your local area to see if there’s any fun activities for your family to enjoy together. For people near L.A., check out here for parade and dragon dance, etc.
Also, according to the Chinese zodiac, if you were born in 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, or 2002, you were born in the Year of the Horse, and that means 2014 is considered your birth sign year (本命年).
Based on Chinese tradition, you should wear red to avoid misfortune for this year. Wearing a red belt, red undies are popular methods used. Regardless of the truth behind this tradition, I think it’s a fun way to celebrate anyway, that’s why I gave my daughter a red belt to wear today~~:)
Here are some cute little red/pony things that I found to add some fun to your celebration! Click on pictures to see details.
